...people who drop everything to serve others the day before an impending snow storm...

...by beautifying their worship space with an enormous Chrismon tree

...by packing food boxes for the food insecure in our community to last through the Christmas break

...by shopping for Christmas presents for kids in need at our local school (and having lots of fun along the way!)

It's Advent!

What is Advent?

"Advent" means "Coming"

It's the time we celebrate Christ coming in "History, Mystery, and Majesty"

We celebrate Christ coming to us in history as a baby, the Word of God taking on human flesh.

We celebrate the ways in which Christ comes to us NOW in mystery.

We long for the day Christ comes to us again in majesty.

We light a new candle on the Advent wreath each week.  And that light is our tiny little protest of hope against the darkness.  That light is a witness that the busy hustle does not run our lives.  It is a sign of our vigil.  It is a sign of our waiting.  O Come, O Come, Emmanuel!

Fried flounder, baked potato, cole slaw, hushpuppies, cookies.

A bake sale will also be set up with whole, half, and quarters of cakes.

Life from Death

"When you see a field of dandelions, you can either see a hundred weeds or a hundred wishes."

Yesterday, these sunny little beauties shining at the edge of one of our cemeteries preached the most magnificent sermon about God bringing life from death.  This pattern is etched in every corner of creation, reminding us of what God has done in Christ.

"Truly I tell you, unless a {seed} falls into the earth and dies, it remains a single seed; but if it dies, it bears much fruit." - John 12:24

"Consider the {flowers} of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, yet even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these." - Matthew 6:28-29
